Sacraments

Jesus instituted Seven Sacraments as "visible signs of God's invisible grace." The Seven Sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Holy Matrimony. 

If you are seeking to receive one of these sacraments, please see below for more information. 

Baptism


If you would like your child(ren) to receive the sacrament of Baptism, please call the parish office at 302-999-0211. The parish secretary will collect all necessary information including the dates and times of all upcoming Baptism prep classes. Registration and attendance at our pre-Baptism prep class is required. 


Anyone 8 years of age or older who is not baptized must enroll in the Order of Christian of Adults to prepare to receive the sacraments. For anyone 8 - 17 years old, please contact the Office of Faith Formation at 302-994-7757. For anyone 18 years or olders, please contact Deacon Oldiges through the parish office at 302-999-0211. 


First Reconciliation and First Communion


Preparartion for these sacraments is run by the Office of Faith Formation. Parents/guardians of children eligible to receive the sacrament will be contacted directly in August prior to the beginning of the new school year. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the Office of Faith Formation at reled@sjbde.org. Diocesan requirements state that a child must have completed one year of religious education (either in a Catholic school or parish religious ed program) prior to beginning the year of sacramental preparation. 

Confirmation 

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation beings in the fall of eighth grade. Eligible students and their parents/guardians will be invited to an initial meeting in August. The celebration of the sacrament takes place in the spring of the Confirmand's eighth grade year. Holy Matrimony


Couples considering marriage at St. John the Beloved Parish should contact the parish office at least one year in advance of their anticipated wedding date. This allows for adequate time for preparation and planning for the Sacrament of Matrimony.
